ARTIST STATEMENT

My language is colour.

My palettes are joyful, light-filled and abundant; it feels necessary to put on canvas an antidote to the times we live. Vases of blooming petalled faces are interwoven with aborous landscapes reflecting the vitality of our Northern Rivers milieux; Bundjalung Country.

Observation is medicine.

As I observe, it takes me to simplicity and my thoughts quieten. I lay down the colours to reveal the essence of natural forms. Flowers are synonymous with beauty; nature brings an immense sense of wellbeing.

BIO

Sharon completed a Bachelors of Fine Art painting and drawing major in 2000 at the National Art School, Sydney. Since that time Sharon has had a number of group and solo exhibitions. Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Sharon has now called Australia home for many years. A move to the Northern Rivers in 2007 allowed her to continue deepening her practice; completing a portfolio course with Byron School of Art to develop her body of work. Sharon’s intense observation, love of colour, beauty, light, space and form, inform her work.

FLORALS

‘As I paint the canvas blooms’.

Roses, zinnias, daisies ... botanical beauties crammed in glass jars, in vases with fruit gemmed still lifes. A dramatic use of light and shade make these beauties pop off the wall. Flowers are a powerful symbol of connection, joy and hope. In keeping with Manet’s still life’s, Whittle’s blooming gems make an ideal small gift for friends.
